THE WRITING SQUAD

HOME

For those that stick with us we continue to offer one to one support and professional development.

At the moment, Course Tutor Danny Broderick is working with writers on their novels, poetry collections and TV scripts.

In the past we have given cash support enabling writers to experience work with publishers, audience development agencies, local authority arts departments and Arts Council England.

We paid for Penny Broadhurst's first demo CD and publicity material, we helped Nick Payne and Chris Bush to take plays to Edinburgh. You can catch up on how they've done since in the Our Writers section.

We have also helped writers develop succesful funding bids, Penny to buy equipment and time to write, Wes Brown to set up his online magazine The Cadaverine.

Writing Squad grads are becoming players in their own right, making their way as professionals, setting up their own projects, forging their own networks. They are now creating their own ecology of new writing in the region and beyond.

"I worked with a publisher as an editor on a new collection of long short stories. The placement was negotiated by the Squad. I extended my knowledge and personal network. Meeting and working with new writers ... now away from the base of the Squad I am beginning to walk on my own two feet, with a work placement with Penguin, and trying my hand at running a literary magazine by and for young writers in the north." Wes Brown, Squad 2
