I work with literature and cultural clients on project, professional and organisational development. My approach is based on my experience as the leader of both projects and organisations, and as a funder and policy maker.
I blend skills and knowledge that I have learnt from the people I have worked alongside, with my own practical common sense.
I try to create an atmosphere in which people feel relaxed and can express themselves confidently, can dream but also wrestle with reality.
I find answers from what is there, build on strengths rather than selling the in vogue, off the shelf, consultant's solution.
Most importantly, while having strong and passionately held views, I aim to articulate other voices rather than imposing my own.
Current contracts include being a creative consultant for the Yorkshire Cultural Olympiad, working with a range of arts organisations to develop projects for the programme. I'm also writing a short novel for young people with Amina Souleiman, drawing on the experiences of people who were child combatants in Somalia.
